Where did they go?

First Lineup Edition

I got the itch to explore where all the players went from Louisville City FC’s inaugural game at Slugger in the Kings Cup vs. Saint Louis. Here is what I found:
GK: Scott Goodwin. Scott was the goalie for the inaugural year, even if he was a little on the shorter side. He would retire in July of 2016 to attend Harvard Medical School, what a nerd and who puts Harvard above the USL?? That was not the end of his LouCity story as he would actually return in September of that year for a road game in Montreal as the emergency keeper with Greg Ranjitsingh away on international duty.
RB: Bryan Burke. Burke should have never spent a minute in Louisville. He was a key component of Orlando City’s USL side and was slated to move up with them to MLS when a broken leg derailed him that season. He came to Louisville City as essentially a rehab year and all he did was win Defender of the Year and lead the league in assists. He did not return to Orlando City, but was actually signed by the Jacksonville Armada of the NASL (not the last time we will hear from them) in December 2015. He then played one more year with NASL San Francisco Deltas
CB: Conor Shanosky. Conor came to Louisville already a veteran of the DC United system and their affiliate, the Richmond Kickers. He would spend two seasons and 41 appearances before returning to Richmond (2013-14) for final 4 seasons.
CB: Tarek Morad. Tarek would spend three seasons in Louisville until after the 2017 season, when Lance McGarvey could take a break from having to figure out how to pronounce Tarek (depending on the day it could be “tar-ick” or “tear-ick). He stayed in the USL upon leaving Louisville with stints in Tampa Bay, San Diego, and most recently Oakland, but did not play in 2024.
LB: Adam West. No, not the Adam West of Batman fame. Spent inaugural year here before going out West to Arizona United (soon to be PHX) and then finishing career with 4 year stint with Tacoma Stars of Major Arena Soccer League
CM: Juan Guzman. Maestro of our midfield year 1. Left to go back and play in Colombia with Patriotas, but returned to USL with Oklahoma City and then New Mexico, but hasn’t played since 2021.
CB: Guy Abend. Spent three seasons with LouCity before going to Reno for one year and two with Saint Louis FC. Hasn’t played since 2020. He was one of the nicest guys on that inaugural team, but we joked that he had the stone cold eyes of an Israeli assassin.
CAM: Niall McCabe. Blah. All this Irish scrub has done is be the last inaugural player left standing and win two titles. Whatever.
CAM: Magnus Rasmussen. Scored first goal and 11 total in first two years. Departed for a year with Danish club BK Frem before returning for three more years and 14 more goals. Stayed home due to Covid and surprisingly never played again. Never replaced his top of the box scoring presence.
FW: Kadeem Dacres. First star and a fan favorite. Could never put it together as he struggled with staying in shape/fitness and work ethic.. Spent two years, 8 goals with Louisville before stints with Cincy, Saint Louis, and Memphis. Hasn’t played since 2021.
FW: Matt Fondy. Oh Matthew Fondy, and his illustrious ponytail. All he did was brake the USL Scoring record in his lone year here. Moved to Jacksonville Armada after the season where he only appeared 8 times and bounced around to North Carolina FC (NASL At time), and then stayed out west where he is from with San Francisco City and the Oakland Roots. Currently has 21 goals in 20 games for Inter SF of SF Soccer Football League. What could have been if our money crunched team didn’t sell him to help stay afloat after year 1.
